Day 2 at MASH
The first event on the second day of MASH was the women’s wakeboarding final. And what the six competitors displayed on the lower part of the Olympic Lake was absolutely impressive. The outcome of the contest, however, was clear-cut: Rivers Hedrick, who in 2025 became the first woman to be named Rider of the Year in the USA and had already won at MASH in 2024, secured victory by a wide margin with her commanding second run. None of her rivals came close to her score of 85.33. This victory made MASH 2026 a perfect event for the 19-year-old, as the American had already won the Best Trick event the previous day. Second in the women’s final was 18-year-old Campbell Scarborough (USA), who had finished third the previous year, with 73.00 points, closely followed by Italy’s Claudia Pagnini (72.33 points), who had won the women’s wakeboard final at MASH 2025. Fourth to sixth places were taken by the 16-year-old Nanou Lenaers (BEL), Katinka Buiting (NED) and Joelina Gerards from Cologne.
What a comeback at MASH: in the second final of the day, the MTB riders – who last competed at the Olympic Park in 2016 – put on a spectacular, action-packed contest. It wasn’t just the spectators lining the 80-metre-long jump line on Hans-Jochen-Vogel-Square who were impressed by the risk-taking tricks, the airtime and the athletes’ extraordinary skill – the judges were too. Sweden’s Alex Alanko secured victory with a technically superb third run and a score of 91.66 points. A score of 87.33 from his first run was enough for Germany’s Erik Fedko to take second place on the podium. Eighteen-year-old Lennox Zimmermann, who had already wowed the Munich crowd at the age of 11 whilst still riding a BMX bike, took third place in the MTB Contest as the youngest competitor with 81.00 points. Przemek Abramowicz (POL), Bernd Winkler (AUT) and Marlon Katzke took fourth to sixth places. Tobey Miley (GER) was unable to compete in the final after sustaining an injury during training.
The new generation of skateboarders was on display at the final of the skateboard contest on the vert at the Olympic Lake. In their three 30-second runs, the eleven skaters treated the fans on the grass terraces to spectacular tricks and a high level of technical skill. With his second run – which was unrivalled that day in terms of difficulty, height, variety and energy – 22-year-old Italian Alessandro Mazzara clinched the gold medal with 88.30 points. Collin Graham (29) had already made a strong impression in his first run with 85.73 points and led the scoring for much of the competition. However, things didn’t really go well for the American in his next two runs, and he ultimately took second place. Third place went to 18-year-old Viktor Solmunde from Denmark, who finished just behind. After an already successful first run, he stepped it up a notch in his second and earned 84.41 points from the judges, which was enough for third place. Ollie Westendrop from the Netherlands, by far the youngest skater in the field at 12 years old, who had won one of the two wildcards at the MASH Vert Jam on Friday, finished in a remarkable 7th place. The second wildcard winner and the only German in the final of the skateboard contest, vert legend Jürgen Horrvarth, finished ninth.
